Whidbey Writers Workshop graduates Carol Frischmann, Kobbie Alamo and Frances Wood were awarded a master of fine arts degree in creative writing last month. At the same event, author Elizabeth George was given an honorary degree in appreciation of her support of programs of the Northwest Institute of Literary Arts.



Oak Harbor residents urged to conserve water
The City of Oak Harbor has implemented Stage 1 water-conservation measures and are encouraging voluntary water conservation due to the possibility of a drought as evidenced by low water levels in the Skagit River.

Outdoor classroom seeks volunteers
Assistant teachers are needed at the Maxwelton Outdoor Classroom for this fall's lessons on the food web in a forest and stream ecosystem. Volunteers and grades 1-5 will learn about the cycle of food producers, consumers and decomposers.
