The Port of Coupeville and the Island Community Solar LLC were presented with Puget Sound Energy's $25,000 Green Power Award at a recent Council of Governments meeting. From left are John Hastings of the LLC, Jim Patton, Port Executive Director, Walt Blackford, representing PSE, and Port Commissioner Benye Weber. Also present were Port Commissioner Marshall Bronson and Coupeville Mayor Nancy Conard, COG Chairwoman. Patton reported that a site had been chosen for the field of solar arrays at the Greenbank Farm and that the initial permit applications had been submitted to the Island County Planning Department. The LLC has raised over $75,000 to add to the award and the Port's contributions. The goal of one of the first Community Solar Energy Projects in Washington State is to produce enough solar power to bring electricity usage at the farm to "net zero."
